Al Lotter (Alfons Nicholaus), age 88, of Hubertus, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. 

Al is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Elaine Lotter; his daughters, Barbara Hill, Kari Slaski (Tom), and Anne Marie Lotter; his stepdaughter Sarah Bassett (Brian); his grandchildren Alec, Adam, Jacob, Emma, Hayley, Lauren, Eddie; and his sister, Marlene Freckmann. 

Al lived a life defined by quiet strength, hard work, and deep love for his family.  A devout Catholic, his faith guided the way he lived—with humility, and kindness.  He enjoyed a distinguished career as an Architectural Project Manager for Zimmerman Design Group, Facilities Director at Columbia Hospital, and several successful years with HNTB.  He took great pride in his work, but his greatest joy was found at home with the people he loved.  

Fishing was Al’s true happy place.  Whether casting for walleye or perch, he found peace on the water and took great pride in keeping meticulous records of every catch.  Some of his favorite memories were made sharing his love of fishing with his grandchildren.  

A gifted craftsman, Al designed and built a beautiful house in Hubertus in 1975.  He found fulfillment in gardening, landscaping, and nurturing his prized orchids.  In his quieter moments, he enjoyed cheering on his favorite Wisconsin teams—the Brewers, Bucks, and Packers.  

Those who knew Al will remember him as a gentle, humble, and dependable man whose kindness, quiet humor, and steady presence made everyone feel welcome. He loved his family unconditionally, offering encouragement and support.  Throughout numerous health challenges, he faced each day with grace, dignity, courage, and steadfast faith.  

Above all else, Al’s greatest legacy is the love he shared with his family and the example of a life lived with faith, integrity, and compassion.  He was a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, whose gentle spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.  

A private family funeral will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Holy Hill in the Shrine Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Hill Basilica in Al’s memory.
