Franklyn Esenberg
April 30, 1933 - August 11, 2026

Franklyn Esenberg, of the Town of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, with his family by his side. He was 93 years old.

He was born on April 30, 1933, in Milwaukee, to Harold Esenberg and Eileen Cole.

On November 14, 1953, he was united in marriage to Barbara E. Kinister. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2021, after nearly 68 years of marriage. Their son, Kirk Esenberg, preceded him in death. Franklyn is survived by his children; Denise Wahlberg (James) and Susan Hagen; grandchildren Jeremy Chart, Derrick Hammetter (Yaowa), Amanda Gall (Kyle), Wesley Wahlberg (Jassi), and Brianna Hagen; and great-grandchildren Jayden Misic, Milan Misic, and Norah Hammetter; and his daughter-in-law, Vickie Esenberg.

In the 1950s, Franklyn played clarinet in the United States Army Band. After his discharge, he joined Interstate Forging Industries as a clerk. While building his career with the company, he spent the next ten years earning his Master of Business Administration degree, bringing to both his work and his relationships a rare combination of intelligence, determination, charm, humor and wit. He ultimately rose from clerk to president and CEO.

For over 60 years, Franklyn played with the Festival City Symphony. He served the organization as a musician, board member, board chairman, and major benefactor. He truly believed in the musicians and in the power of sharing classical music with the community in a way that only this orchestra could. His passion, generosity, and support for this organization were immeasurable, and his legacy will be honored by all who love classical music for years to come.

He was a talented woodworker and competitive golfer, winning numerous tournaments across Wisconsin over the years. Franklyn lived a long and remarkable life. A man of strong faith, he often spoke openly with others about the Bible and his hope for the future.

Perhaps what distinguished Franklyn most, though, was his genuine interest in people. He left an indelible mark on everyone he met, with kindness and generosity being his trademark. When asked what he wanted, his answer was often simply, “More time.” More time for conversation, for friendship, and for all that life still had to offer.

His family will remember many things about Franklyn—his music, great sense of humor, woodworking, love of golf, stories, conversations, and that familiar sound of a clarinet being practiced somewhere nearby.

Most of all, they will remember a man who understood something precious about life: there was always another conversation to be had, and never quite enough time.
