Maurice Dale “Morie” Wirt, 97 passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, leaving behind four generations of a family, who loved him. Morie was born on August 17, 1929 in Milwaukee Wisconsin, to Niles and Esther Wirt (nee Fritz). Morie is now reunited in heaven with Dolores his beloved wife of 56 years, his parents, five brothers, sister daughter-in-law and many friends.
Morie was born and raised in Milwaukee, and an auto mechanic by trade, he later moved his growing family to Menomonee Falls. Always working on a project, he took immense pride in his house, whether he was custom building triple bunk beds or crafting a legendary basement bar shaped like the bow of a boat.
Morie loved the outdoors, an avid hunter, fisherman, and archer his happiest times were spent surrounded by nature and those he loved. Summers were defined by unforgettable family vacations. All nine family members and the dog packed tightly into the station wagon, headed for the camp ground, with a tent big enough for the whole family. Morie a true adventurer at heart, loved taking the family out west to see Mount Rushmore and every landmark along the way. At night, around the campfire he would enlist the older kids to tell ghost stories, just so he could jump out and scare everyone. On the water, Morie showed endless patience, teaching each of his kids to waterski. Later in life, he and Dolores cherished unforgettable travels together, exploring Hawaii, Alaska and Japan. Morie was proud he traveled to all 50 states.
Morie a true beer enthusiast, knew all the best places in and around Milwaukee to stop for a cold beer and lunch. In his later years, Morie especially treasured his time and friendships at Dobber’s in Lannon.
Though his final years were shadowed by dementia, Morie lived a remarkable life and will be deeply missed by his sister, 7 kids, 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren including sister Pat Siegrist and children Dale (Marilynn) Wirt; Kathy (Brian) Eberhardt (grandchildren Danny, Sarah and Nicole); Jeff (Sue) (late) Wirt (grandchildren Robert, Jimmy and Johanna); Jean and (George) Mills (grandchildren Amanda and Shelly); Ellen Boland (grandchildren Tyler and Deanne); Laurie and (Jay) Basken (grandchildren Cameron and Collin); Gerilynn (Jim) Mikkelson (grandchildren Jimmy, Jeremy and Joey).
The family takes comfort in knowing Morie has been called home to heaven to be reunited with his parents, brothers, sister and Dolores - where we picture them back on the dance floor together once again. Until we meet again!
Visitation will be held at Schmidt and Bartelt Funeral Home in Menomonee Falls Thursday, September 3 from 4 PM until 5:45 PM with service to follow at 6 PM. The family invites you to share your memories and leave condolences in Morie’s online guest book.
