Born to eternal life on October 10, 2012 at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband of Patricia (nee Trapp) for over 59 years. Cherished father of Richard S. (Debra), Brian (Lisa) and Sheila (Jay) Schmidt. Loving grandfather of Stacy (Marc) Schulman, Daniel (Steve), Alyssa, Ryan, Evan, Adam, Hannah and Braeden. Great grandfather of Emily and Charlie. Further survived by other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by infants Bobby and Mary.
Visitation on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Funeral Home from 2 PM until the time of Vigil Service at 5 PM. Visitation on Monday, October 15, 2012 at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 734 N. Glenview Avenue, Wauwatosa from 10 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude the Apostle Parish, Village at Manor Park, and St. Louis University Medical School appreciated. Born April 28, 1927 in Peoria, IL to Clemens and Alma (Harmon) Strassburger.
Educated at St. Bernard’s School (Peoria), valedictorian of Spaulding Institute (Peoria), St. Louis University, and St. Louis University Medical School. Noted member of Alpha Sigma Nu (Jesuit Honor Society) and Alpha Omega Alpha (St. Louis University Medical Honor Society).
Intern and surgical resident at Milwaukee County Hospital; neurological surgery resident at Minnesota University Hospital. Began neurosurgical practice in Milwaukee hospitals in January 1960, serving over 30 years at St. Luke’s, St. Francis, Deaconess, Mt. Sinai, Children’s and West Allis Memorial. Served as Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff at St. Luke’s. Member of Board of Directors of Milwaukee County Medical Society and Wisconsin State Medical Society; member of American Medical Association, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Association of American Neurological Surgeons; past President of Wisconsin State Neurological Society; past President of Milwaukee Neuro-psychiatric Society.
Personal interests included attending symphony concerts, opera, theatre; downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, tennis; reading biographies and history. Loved his time spent at Elkhart Lake. Devoted parishioner of St. Jude the Apostle Parish (Wauwatosa) for over 50 years, actively involved with facilitating bible study. Longtime member of Westmoor Country Club. Veteran of the U.S. Navy. Loved and respected by his patients and peers.
