Joan M. Beck of Oconomowoc passed away on Saturday January 3, 2015 at the age 82 years. Joan was born December 18, 1932 in Oconomowoc to Glenn and Mary Evelyn Barnhart. She married John Beck on February 10, 1962 in Chicago, IL. Joan is the loving mother of Katherine (Jacob) Olson, Mara (Allen) Beck-Rinnemaki, John (Margaret) Beck, Sharon (Jeffrey) Schwarz, Charles Beck. She is survived by her grandchildren Glen, Lyn and Sidney Olson; Zamiel and Zekiel Schwarz; Clarice Beck; Alexander Beck, Zachary and Brooke Winslow. Further survived by her Brother-in-law Clark Beck and Sister-in-law Delores Betts. Preceded in death by her Parents, Husband John, and Brother-in-law Theodore Beck. Joan attended St. Jerome Parochial school continuing onto Oconomowoc High School graduating in 1950. She attended UW Madison 1950-51, Secretarial School-Prospect Hall, Milwaukee from 1952-53. In August 1955 she contracted Bulbar Polio spending 8 months at UW Hospitals Madison, WI. Joan completed her studies at UW Madison graduating with a degree in Speech Therapy in January 1959. She worked in Chicago from 1960-62. During the years of 1964-65, Joan moved back home to care for her mother, Evelyn Barry, who had sufferred a stroke. Joan was a homemaker and enjoyed various church and community associations. Her interests included art, history, music, cooking, reading and gardening.  She had a varied career starting with John Oster Company, Oconomowoc Publishing Company, American Dental Association, Speech Therapist for Chicago Public School System, Secretary for Trane Company, Copy Editor for FOBTA, and Market Researcher for Lein/Spiegelhoff. Friends may visit on Saturday January 17, 2015 from 10:00 AM until time of memorial service 11:30 AM all at the funeral home. Memorials to AngelsGrace Hospice or the Oconomowoc Historical Society appreciated. Final rest Wisconsin Memorial Park.
