RONALD G. SCOTT
February 12, 1933 - November 26, 2015
Age 82, of East Troy, WI date of death November 26, 2015To his friends, he is known as "Otto" or "Scotty", depending upon which part of the state you are from. Our father was an avid aviation enthusiast. From the time he was a young boy, he started building model airplanes in Tomah, Wisconsin. He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War. He took flight lessons and bought a 1941 Taylorcraft airplane. Upon meeting EAA Founder Paul Poberezny in 1959, "Scotty" was encouraged to design and build "Ol Ironsides", the first homebuilt to use fiberglass structurally in a skin-stressed application. His airplane is found in the prestigious Jane's World book out of London. He served the Experimental Aircraft Association for over 50 years as a board member and technical counselor, and as Communications Center Chair "Green One" during EAA AirVenture, Oshkosh. He was inducted into the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame in 2013.
He was also a loving father and husband. He loved taking pictures and for a time he was co-owner of Aero-Optics, Inc. an aerial photography business with neighbor, Don Voland. He spent countless hours making videos of our old family slides and pictures from infancy to adulthood. We are very thankful for those memories, and will always have them to remember our life with Mom and Dad and our wacky, but fun relatives.
Ron was born in Peoria, Ilinois on February 12, 1933, the son of Gilbert and Helen Scott. After his military service, he attended Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee. He started working for AT&T, where he met our Mother, Lois Sturman. They were married May 26, 1962.
Ron is preceded in death by his wife, Lois, and is survived by his daughters, Robin (Gary Dums) of Elkhorn, WI; Tracey (Dave Reich) of Grafton, WI; son Matthew Scott of Mukwonago, WI.
