John H. Manz
December 19, 1932 - April 7, 2016
        
John Hartvigh Manz heard the peaceful call to eternal life on the morning of 4/7/16 at his  home in Sussex, Wisconsin, surrounded by his loving  family.  John now reunites with his loving wife Helen.  John was born December 19, 1932 in Eau Claire, WI to Dr. Walton Manz and his wife Beatrice Hartvigh Manz, and was the oldest of 4 children. John's true passion was music, and he earned a master's degree in music from Indiana University, and later a PhD in education from the University of WIsconsin, Madison.  His early years were spent teaching music and playing in bands and orchestras. John later served as principal of North high school in Menomonee Falls, WI, and subsequently as curriculum director.  He truly enjoyed his roles in the Menomonee Falls school district, as well as the many people he knew professionally and as friends while in those roles.  He spoke often of his friendships with fellow educators Richard Woosencraft and Sidney Truckenbrod.John and his wife Helen had many wonderful years after retirement and loved to camp, canoe, and travel.  John continued to play banjo and tuba in parades and concerts throughout southeastern Wisconsin.John was a loving father to daughters Mary Jeanne (William) Hanson and Susan Manz (Jeff) Larson.  He is survived by brothers Carl (Diane) Manz, Frank (Joanne) Manz, and sister Martha McMahon.He will be remembered for his sharp wit and outspokenness by grandchildren Michael (Julia) Larson, Matthew (Jenny) Larson, Nicole (Michael) Eisenhut, and John (Emily) Hanson.  He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren, Tyler, Devon and Reese Eisenhut and Elizabeth and William Hanson.John's family wishes to acknowledge the loving care provided by his care givers Patrice Peppers-McCoy, Linda Van Allen and Amy Schmidt, as well as his many wonderful neighbors who routinely visited and spent time with him.A memorial fund for a fine arts scholarship at Menomonee Falls High School has been established in his name.  Contributions can be mailed to the Dr John Manz Memorial Music Scholarship, C/O MF Scholarship/Educational Foundation, P.
