Riggio, Suzanne M.
(Nee Mouton), age 83, passed away on Tuesday May 10, 2016 at home surrounded by loved ones.
Suzanne was born December 5th, 1932 in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana and raised on a farm along the Bayou Teche. She received her college education at Louisiana State University, Ohio Northern University, West Virginia University Institute of Technology, and Indiana University. A musician, teacher, and administrator, she also spent many years as a journalist. Among her accomplishments were principal horn with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra (now the West Virginia Symphony), dean and provost of the Charleston Conservatory of Music and Fine Arts, and with husband Donald, founded the Lilliput Orchestra, whose purpose was to educate young people about music and the symphony orchestra. Upon her retirement in 1990, she decided to try her hand at quilting, and subsequently became an internationally acclaimed prize-winning art quilter and lecturer.
Beloved wife of Donald for 63 years. Loving mother of Paul (Lynn), Mark, Teresa (Paul), Anne (David), and John (Janet). Proud grandmother of Nalina (Jacob), Zachary, Celia, Ben, and Sofia. Adoring great-grandmother of Tristan and Scarlett. Cherished sister of Cliff (Rita), Jerome (Carolyn), and Rose (Wayne).
Visitation Sunday May 15th at the FUNERAL HOME from 4:00-7:00 PM. An additional visitation on Monday at ST. MARY’S VISITATION PARISH, 1260 Church St. Elm Grove from 9:30 AM until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Visitation Cemetery.
